The Romans (Al-Room)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ AlifLaamMeem. 1 Defeated have been the Byzantines 2 In a nearer land; and they, after the overcoming of them, shall soon overcome. 3 All matters of the past and future are in the hands of God. The believers will enjoy the help of God on that Day. 4 at the victory granted by Allah. He grants victory to whomsoever He pleases. He is the Most Mighty, the Most Compassionate. 5 [It is] the promise of Allah. Allah does not fail in His promise, but most of the people do not know. 6 They know an outward part of this life, but of the Everlasting Life they are inattentive. 7 Do they not think deeply (in their ownselves) about themselves (how Allah created them from nothing, and similarly He will resurrect them)? Allah has created not the heavens and the earth, and all that is between them, except with truth and for an appointed term. And indeed many of mankind deny the Meeting with their Lord. [See Tafsir At-Tabari, Part 21, Page 24]. 8 Have they not travelled on the earth and seen how the others before them had met their end? They were far more powerful than them, furrowed the earth and colonised it far more than they; and their apostles came to them with visible signs. It was surely not for God to wrong them, they wronged themselves. 9 Therefore evil was the end of those who did evil, for they denied the signs of God and made fun of them. 10
