The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By the Mount, 1 and a Book inscribed 2 on wide-open scrolls. 3 The house ever-peopled, 4 By the Canopy Raised High; 5 and by the swelling sea, 6 the punishment of your Lord shall certainly come to pass, 7 No one can avert it. 8 Upon the Day when the heaven spins dizzily 9 The mountains move and fly away, 10 Woe on that Day to those who deny the truth, 11 That play (and paddle) in shallow trifles. 12 on that Day they shall be ruthlessly thrust into the Fire of Hell. 13 This is the fire which you used to give the lie to. 14 "Is this then a fake, or is it ye that do not see? 15 Roast in it! And bear you patiently, or bear not patiently, equal it is to you; you are only being recompensed for that you were working.' 16 Lo! those who kept their duty dwell in gardens and delight, 17 Rejoicing in that which their Lord hath vouchsafed unto them; and their Lord will protect them from the torment of the Flame. 18 (And it is said unto them): Eat and drink in health (as a reward) for what ye used to do, 19 Reclining on ranged couches. And we wed them unto fair ones with wide, lovely eyes. 20 And as for those who have attained to faith and whose offspring will have followed them in faith, We shall unite them with their offspring; and We shall not let aught of their deeds go to waste: [but] every human being will be held in pledge for whatever he has earned. 21 And We shall bestow on them, of fruit and meat, anything they shall desire. 22 They shall there exchange, one with another, a (loving) cup free of frivolity, free of all taint of ill. 23 ۞ And young attendants like pearls within their shells, will go round. 24 And some of them shall advance towards others questioning each other. 25 They will say: "Aforetime, we were not without fear for the sake of our people. 26 but Allah has been gracious to us and has protected us from the punishment of the burning wind. 27 We used to pray to Him erstwhile; He is the just and merciful. 28
