The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
I swear by the star when it goes down. 1 That your companion is not confused, nor has he gone astray, 2 nor does he speak out of his desire. 3 This is naught but a revelation revealed, 4 The Lord of Mighty Power has taught him, 5 The Strong; then the Spectacle inclined towards him. 6 While he was in the higher [part of the] horizon. 7 then drew near and suspended hung, 8 until he was two bows' length away, or nearer. 9 So Allah divinely revealed to His bondman, whatever He divinely revealed. 10 His heart lies not of what he saw; 11 what, will you dispute with him what he sees? 12 And certainly he saw him descend a second time: 13 Near Sidrat-ul-Muntaha [lote-tree of the utmost boundary (beyond which none can pass)], 14 Near which is the garden, the place to be resorted to. 15 When the lote-tree was being enveloped, by whatever around it. 16 his eye swerved not; nor swept astray. 17 Indeed, he saw one of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 Have ye seen Lat. and 'Uzza, 19 and Manat the third, the other? 20 What! for you the male sex, and for Him, the female? 21 that, lo and behold, is an unfair division! 22 These are only names which you and your fathers have invented. No authority was sent down by God for them. They only follow conjecture and wish-fulfilment, even though guidance had come to them already from their Lord. 23 Does man imagine that whatever he wishes for is right for him? 24 To Allah belong both the Next World and the present. 25
