The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O thou wrapped up (in the mantle)! 1 Arise and warn, 2 Thy Lord magnify 3 Thy raiment purify, 4 And all abomination shun! 5 And show not favour, seeking wordly gain! 6 and be patient unto thy Lord. 7 When the Trumpet is sounded, 8 that will surely be a hard day, 9 For the disbelievers - not easy. 10 Leave Me alone [to deal] with him whom I have created alone, 11 And give him vast riches, 12 and sons standing before him, 13 And made several preparations for him. 14 And who yet coveteth that shall increase. 15 Nay! He is forward unto Our signs; 16 Soon I shall mount him on Saood, the hill of fire. 17 For he thought and he plotted;- 18 So accursed be he, how evilly did he decide! 19 Again, death seized him, how was his determining! 20 Then he thought; 21 then he frowned and scowled, 22 then turned back, and swelling-up with pride, 23 and said, "This is nothing but sorcery from the ancients. 24 Naught is this but the word of Man. 25 Soon will I cast him into Hell-Fire! 26 What could make you conceive what hell-fire is? 27 It leaves and spares no one and nothing. 28 scorching the flesh; 29 over it are nineteen. 30 We have appointed none but angels as the keepers of the Fire, and We have not made their number but as a trial for the unbelievers so that those who have been endowed with the Book will be convinced and the believers' faith will increase, and neither those who have been endowed with the Book nor the believers will fall into any doubt. As for those in whose hearts there is a sickness as well as the unbelievers, they will say: “What did Allah aim at by this strange parable?” Thus does Allah let whomsoever He pleases to go astray, and directs whomsoever He pleases to the Right Way. And none knows the hosts of your Lord but He. (And Hell has only been mentioned here) that people may take heed. 31
