۞ We gave Abraham aforetime his rectitude -- for We knew him -- 51 When he said to his father and his people: "What are these idols to which you cling so passionately?" 52 They said:"We found our fathers worshipping them." 53 He said, "Indeed ye have been in manifest error - ye and your fathers." 54 They said: "Are you expressing your true ideas before us or are you jesting?" 55 He answered: "Nay, but your [true] Sustainer is the Sustainer of the heavens and the earth - He who has brought them into being: and I am one of those who bear witness to this [truth]!" 56 And by Allah I shall surely devise a plot against your idols after ye turned away backward. 57 Then he reduced them to fragments, all save the chief of them, that haply they might have recourse to it. 58 They said, “Who has done this to our Gods? He is indeed cruel!” 59 Some said, "We heard a young man, called Abraham, talking about them." 60 They said, 'Bring him before the people's eyes; haply they shall bear witness.' 61 They said, "Abraham, was it you who did this to our deities?" 62 He said: rather he hath wrought it, this big one of them; so question them, if they ever speak. 63 So they turned to themselves and said: "Verily, you are the Zalimun (polytheists and wrong-doers)." 64 Then were they confounded with shame: (they said), "Thou knowest full well that these (idols) do not speak!" 65 Abraham said, "So, do you worship something instead of God that can neither benefit you nor harm you? 66 "Fie upon you, and upon the things that ye worship besides Allah! Have ye no sense?".. 67 They said, 'Burn him, and help your gods, if you would do aught.' 68 We (Allah) said: "O fire! Be you coolness and safety for Ibrahim (Abraham)!" 69 They had sought to do him harm, but We frustrated them. 70 So We delivered him and Lot, and brought them to the land We had blessed for all the people. 71 We granted him Isaac and Jacob as a gift and helped both of them to become righteous people. 72 And We made them into leaders to guide people in accordance with Our command, and We inspired them to good works, and to establish Prayers and to give Zakah. They worshipped Us alone. 73 And to Lut, too, We gave Judgment and Knowledge, and We saved him from the town which practised abominations: truly they were a people given to Evil, a rebellious people. 74 We admitted him to Our Mercy, he was among the righteous. 75
