The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
A supplicant asked for a punishment bound to happen 1 The infidels, of which there is no averter. 2 from God, the Lord of the Stairways. 3 by which the angels and the Spirit will ascend to Him in one Day which will last for fifty thousand years. 4 But be patient (O Muhammad) with a patience fair to see. 5 Lo! they behold it afar off 6 but We see it near. 7 On the day when the heavens become like molten metal. 8 and the mountains will become like tufts of wool, 9 And no friend will ask after a friend, 10 Though they shall be made to see one another. Fain would the guilty ransom himself from the torment of that Day by his children. 11 And his spouse and his brother 12 and his kinsfolk who had stood by him, 13 And all, all that is on earth,- so it could deliver him: 14 By no means! Verily, it will be the Fire of Hell! 15 Eager to roast; 16 It shall insistently summon him who turned his back and retreated, 17 and who accumulated wealth without spending it for a good purpose. 18 ۞ Indeed, man is born impatient: 19 when misfortune touches him he starts lamenting, 20 when good visits him, grudging, 21 Except those who closely follow (the Book of God), 22 Those who are constant at their prayer 23 And those in whose wealth is a recognised right. 24 For the beggar and the destitute; 25 who acknowledge the Day of Judgment, 26 And those who fear the displeasure of their Lord,- 27 Verily! The torment of their Lord is that before which none can feel secure, 28 And those who protect their private organs (from adultery). 29 except from their spouses and those whom they rightfully possess [through wedlock], for which they incur no blame -- 30 whereas such as seek to go beyond that [limit] are truly transgressors; 31 And those who are to their trusts and promises attentive 32 And those who stand by their testimony 33 And those who keep a guard on their prayer, 34 all these shall live honourably in the Gardens. 35
