Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
By the dawn, 1 And the Ten Nights, 2 by the even and the odd, 3 And the night when it departeth, 4 Is this not a sufficient oath for intelligent people? 5 Did you not see how did your Lord deal with (the tribe of) Aad? 6 of Iram, known for their lofty columns, 7 the like of which was never created in the land, 8 And Thamood, who hewed out the rocks of the valley? 9 And with Pharaoh, lord of stakes? 10 who all were insolent in the land 11 And increased therein the corruption. 12 Therefore your Lord struck them hard with the means of punishment. 13 Truly your Lord is ever watchful. 14 As for man, when his Lord tries him by giving him honour and gifts, then he says (puffed up): "My Lord has honoured me." 15 But when He tests him by restricting his provision, he says: 'My Lord has humiliated me' 16 Nay, nay! but ye honour not the orphans! 17 and you urge not the feeding of the needy, 18 Why do you take away the inheritance of others indiscriminately 19 And you harbour intense love for wealth. 20 Nay! When the earth is ground to powder, 21 when your Lord comes down with the angels, rank upon rank, 22 And when hell is brought that day – on that day will man reflect, but where is the time now to think? 23 He will say: 'Would that I had forwarded (good works) for my life!' 24 So on that day, no one punishes like He does! 25 And no one binds like He does! 26 But ah! thou soul at peace! 27 return to your Lord, well-pleased, well-pleasing. 28 "Enter you, then, among My honoured slaves, 29 enter My Paradise! 30
