And recite to them the story of Ibrahim. 69 When he said unto his father and his folk: What worship ye? 70 They said: "We worship idols, and to them we are ever devoted." 71 Said he: "Do [you really think that] they hear you when you invoke them, 72 Or do they benefit or harm you? 73 They replied, "But we found our fathers doing the same." 74 He said: "Have you considered what you have been worshipping, 75 and what your grandfathers worshipped 76 They are all enemies to me; all, except the Lord of the Universe 77 who created me; and He guides me, 78 And He Who gives me to eat and gives me to drink: 79 And when I sicken, then He healeth me. 80 And Who causeth me to die, then giveth me life (again), 81 "And the One Who, upon Whom I pin my hopes, will forgive me my mistakes on the Day of Judgement." 82 [And he said], "My Lord, grant me authority and join me with the righteous. 83 And grant me a reputation of honor among later generations. 84 And make me of the heirs of the garden of bliss 85 "And forgive my father - for, verily, he is among those who have gone astray 86 And disgrace me not on the Day when (all the creatures) will be resurrected; 87 The day on which property will not avail, nor sons 88 and when he alone will be saved who comes to God with a sound heart." 89 And Paradise will be brought near to the Muttaqun (pious - see V. 2:2). 90 whereas the blazing fire will be laid open before those who had been lost in grievous error; 91 And it shall be said unto them where is that which ye were wont to worship? 92 Other than Allah? Can they help you or help themselves?" 93 Then will they be hurled therein, they and the seducers 94 and the hosts of iblis all together. 95 "They will say there in their mutual bickerings: 96 "'By Allah, we were truly in an error manifest, 97 When we equalled you with the Lord of the worlds. 98 It was naught but the sinners that led us astray; 99 Now we have none to intercede for us, 100 "'Nor a single friend to feel (for us). 101 O that we might return again, and be among the believers!' 102 Verily! In this is indeed a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 103 And indeed your Lord - only He is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 104
