And recite to them the news of Abraham. 69 when he asked his father and his people: "What do you worship?" 70 They said, “We worship idols, and we keep squatting in seclusion before them.” 71 He said: Do they hear you when ye cry? 72 Or do they profit you or cause you harm? 73 They said: Nay, but we found our fathers acting on this wise. 74 Said [Abraham]: "Have you, then, ever considered what it is that you have been worshipping 75 You and your ancient forefathers? 76 "For they are enemies to me; not so the Lord and Cherisher of the Worlds; 77 Who created me, and He [it is who] guides me. 78 and Himself gives me to eat and drink, 79 and heals me when I am sick. 80 and who will cause me to die and then will bring me back to life 81 And Who, I ardently hope, will forgive me my sin on the Day of Judgment. 82 Lord, grant me authority. Join me to the righteous ones. 83 “And give me proper fame among the succeeding generations.” 84 and make me one of the inheritors of the Garden of Bliss; 85 Forgive my father. He has gone astray. 86 Degrade me not upon the day when they are raised up, 87 "The Day whereon neither wealth nor sons will avail, 88 except for him who comes to God with a pure heart. 89 And the Garden will be brought nigh for those who ward off (evil). 90 And hell will be revealed for the astray. 91 And it shall be said unto them where is that which ye were wont to worship? 92 instead of God? Can these [things and beings] be of any help to you or to themselves?" 93 And they will be pitched into it, they and the perverse 94 and the army of satan will all be thrown headlong into hell. 95 They shall say while they contend therein: 96 By Allah! we were certainly in manifest error, 97 “When we considered you equal to the Lord Of The Creation.” 98 And none led us astray except the culprits. 99 So now we have no intercessors 100 "'Nor a single friend to feel (for us). 101 But if we could but once return, we would be of the believers. 102 Verily there is a sign in this, but many of them do not believe. 103 And lo, thy Lord! He is indeed the Mighty, the Merciful. 104
