۞ "Bring ye up", it shall be said, "The wrong-doers and their wives, and the things they worshipped- 22 besides God, and show them the way of hell. 23 "But stop them, for they must be asked: 24 “What is the matter with you, that you do not help one another?” 25 Indeed, today they are surrendering themselves completely.” 26 They will turn to each other saying, 27 They said, “It is you who used to come to us from our right, in order to sway.” 28 They will answer, “You yourselves did not have faith!” 29 And we had over you no authority, but ye were a people exorbitant. 30 So the sentence of our Lord has come to pass against us: (now) we shall surely taste; 31 We led you astray as we were ourselves astray." 32 So, they will become partners in punishment. 33 That is how We deal with sinners. 34 Verily when it was said unto them: there is no god but Allah, they ever grew stiff-necked. 35 and said: 'Are we to renounce our gods for the sake of a mad poet' 36 'No indeed; but he brought the truth, and confirmed the Envoys. 37 “You surely have to taste the painful punishment.” 38 and be rewarded only according to your deeds." 39 Except the chosen creatures of God, 40 Those will have a provision determined - 41 and fruits while they are honored. 42 In Gardens of Delight. 43 facing one another [in love] upon thrones of happiness. 44 There will be circulated among them a cup [of wine] from a flowing spring, 45 Clear, delicious to drink, 46 but not harmful or intoxicating. 47 And besides them will be chaste women, restraining their glances, with big eyes (of wonder and beauty). 48 as if they were hidden pearls. 49 So one among them turns to the other, questioning. – 50 A speaker of them saith: Lo! I had a comrade 51 who would say, "Are you a confirmer? 52 Can we, when we are dead and have become mere dust and bones - can we (then) verily be brought to book? 53 Then he will say, "Shall we look for him?" 54 He therefore looked down and saw him amidst the blazing fire. 55 He shall say: By Allah! you had almost caused me to perish; 56 Had it not been for the grace of my Lord I too would have been there (in Hell). 57 "Is it (the case) that we shall not die, 58 "Except our first death, and that we shall not be punished?" 59 Truly, this is the supreme success! 60 For the like of this then let the workers work. 61 Is that (Paradise) better entertainment or the tree of Zaqqum (a horrible tree in Hell)? 62 Truly We have made it (as) a trail for the Zalimun (polytheists, disbelievers, wrong-doers, etc.). 63 Indeed, it is a tree issuing from the bottom of the Hellfire, 64 Its spathes are like the heads of satans. 65 and they [who are lost in evil] are indeed bound to eat thereof, and to fill their bellies therewith. 66 Then on top of it they will have a brew of boiling water. 67 They can only return to hell. 68 They indeed found their fathers astray, 69 So they in their footsteps are rushing. 70 And certainly most of the ancients went astray before them, 71 And certainly We sent among them warners. 72 and behold what happened in the end to those that had been warned [to no avail]! 73 Save single-minded slaves of Allah. 74
