The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the inevitable event takes place, 1 There is about its happening no lie. 2 (a calamitous Event) that shall turn things upside down: 3 When the earth is shaken with a shaking [severe,] 4 and the mountains are shattered into [countless] shards, 5 So they will become like fine dust, scattered in a shaft of light. 6 On that day, you (mankind) will be divided into three groups: 7 Those of the right hand -- how (happy) will be those of the right hand! 8 And there shall be such as will have lost themselves in evil: oh, how [unhappy] will be they who have lost themselves in evil! 9 And the foremost in the race, the foremost in the race: 10 Those are the ones brought near [to Allah] 11 They will dwell in the Gardens of Bliss: 12 A multitude of those (foremost) will be from the first generations (who embraced Islam). 13 and only a few of them from the later generations. 14 On couches in wrought with gold. 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 There shall go round unto them youths ever-young. 17 with goblets and ewers, and a cup from a spring 18 Unheady, uninebriating; 19 And fruits that they may like. 20 and the meat of any bird that they may desire; 21 and fair maidens with large, lustrous eyes 22 Like unto preserved pearls. 23 A Reward for the deeds of their past (life). 24 They will not hear any useless speech in it, or any sin. 25 only the words of peace and tranquillity. 26 NOW AS FOR those who have attained to righteousness - what of those who have attained to righteousness? 27 Among thorn-less lote-trees. 28 And banana-trees (with fruits), one above another. 29 and shade extended, 30 And water flowing constantly, 31 And plenty of fruits. 32 never-ending and unrestricted, 33 And raised couches; 34 We have indeed developed these women with an excellent development. 35 And made them virgins, 36 Beloved (by nature), equal in age,- 37 for the people of the right hand 38
