A numerous company from among the first, 39 And a numerous company from among the last. 40 And those of the left hand, how wretched are those of the left hand! 41 [They will find themselves] in the midst of scorching winds, and burning despair, 42 and the shadows of black smoke 43 Nothing (will there be) to refresh, nor to please: 44 Lo! heretofore they were effete with luxury 45 And were persisting in great sin (joining partners in worship along with Allah, committing murders and other crimes, etc.) 46 And said: "What! When we are dead and turned to dust and bones, shall we then be raised again? 47 And also our forefathers?" 48 Say: The first and the last, 49 will indeed be gathered together at an appointed time on a Day known [only to God]: 50 Then indeed you, the astray, the deniers – 51 "You verily will eat of the trees of Zaqqum. 52 and fill your bellies with it, 53 And upon it, you will drink the hot boiling water. 54 You shall drink it as the thirsty camels drink." 55 That will be their entertainment on the Day of Recompense! 56 It is We Who created you, so why do you not accept the truth? 57 Behold! that which ye emit. 58 Is it you who create it - or are We the source of its creation? 59 We have decreed among you Death; We shall not be outstripped; 60 That We may transfigure you and make you what ye know not. 61 You certainly knew about (your) first development. Why do you not take heed? 62 Have you considered what you sow? 63 Is it ye that cause it to grow, or are We the Cause? 64 Did We will, We would make it broken orts, and you would remain bitterly jesting -- 65 Verily we are undone. 66 Rather, we have been deprived." 67 So what is your opinion regarding the water that you drink? 68 Is it you who cause it to descend from the clouds, or do We? 69 If We pleased, We would have made it salty; why do you not then give thanks? 70 See ye the Fire which ye kindle? 71 Is it you who produced its tree, or are We the producer? 72 We have made it as a reminder of hell and as a utility for travellers in the jungle. 73 So glorify the name of your Lord, the Supreme. 74
