Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
By the dawn 1 by the Ten Nights, 2 by the even, and the odd, 3 And the night when it departeth, 4 Considering all this - could there be, to anyone endowed with reason, a [more] solemn evidence of the truth? 5 Bethinkest thou not in what wise thy Lord did with the 'A'ad: 6 Iram of the pillars, 7 The like of which were not created in the (other) cities; 8 And (with) Thamud (people), who cut (hewed) out rocks in the valley (to make dwellings)? 9 (Also consider the people of) the Pharaoh who victimized people by placing them on the stake, 10 [It was they] who transgressed all bounds of equity all over their lands, 11 And who then spread a lot of turmoil in them. 12 Therefore did thy Lord pour on them a scourge of diverse chastisements: 13 for, indeed, your Sustainer is ever on the watch! 14 As for man, when his Lord tries him by giving him honour and gifts, then he says (puffed up): "My Lord has honoured me." 15 But when He tries him and restricts his provision, he says, "My Lord has humiliated me." 16 But nay, nay, [O men, consider all that you do and fail to do:] you are not generous towards the orphan, 17 or urge one another to feed the destitute? 18 And you devour inheritance all with greed, 19 and you love wealth with an ardent love 20 No! But when the earth quakes and is pounded, 21 when your Lord comes down with the angels, rank upon rank, 22 And the Hell on that Day shall be brought nigh. On that Day man shall remember, but how will remembrance avail him? 23 He shall say, 'O would that I had forwarded for my life!' 24 But on that day shall no one chastise with (anything like) His chastisement, 25 Nor shall any bind with His bond. 26 But ah! thou soul at peace! 27 "Come back thou to thy Lord,- well pleased (thyself), and well-pleasing unto Him! 28 "Enter thou, then, among My devotees! 29 And enter thou My Garden. 30
