The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the night as it veils [the earth] in darkness, 1 by the day when it appears radiant, 2 Consider the creation of the male and the female! 3 you strive in various ways. 4 Then as for him who gives away and guards (against evil), 5 and believes in the finest, 6 Unto him therefore We shall indeed make easy the path to ease. 7 But as for one who is miserly and unheeding, 8 and calls the ultimate good a lie 9 We shall facilitate the path to affliction 10 Nor will his wealth profit him when he falls headlong (into the Pit). 11 Surely Ours is it to show the way, 12 and to Us belong the Next Life and the present. 13 I have now warned you of the Blazing Fire, 14 None will [enter to] burn therein except the most wretched one. 15 Who give the lie to Truth and turn their backs. 16 But those most devoted to Allah shall be removed far from it,- 17 And gives of his wealth that he may grow in virtue, 18 and confers no favor upon anyone for recompense 19 only seeking the Face of his Lord the Most High; 20 He will surely be well-pleased (with him). 21
