Tell them the story of Abraham, 69 When he said to his father and his people, "What do you worship?" 70 They said, “We worship idols, and we keep squatting in seclusion before them.” 71 (Abraham) asked: "Do they hear when you call them? 72 “Or do they benefit you or harm you?” 73 They answered: "No; but we found our forefathers doing so." 74 He said, 'And have you considered what you have been serving, 75 You and your ancient forefathers? 76 They are all enemies to me; all, except the Lord of the Universe 77 who created me; and He guides me, 78 Who gives me food and drink, 79 who, when I am sick, heals me; 80 who makes me to die and then revives me, 81 Who, I hope, will forgive me my sins on the Day of Judgement." 82 "O my Lord! bestow wisdom on me, and join me with the righteous; 83 Make my words come true in the future. 84 And place me among the inheritors of the Garden of Pleasure. 85 and forgive my father, for he was among the astray. 86 and do not disgrace me on the Day when all people are resurrected, 87 “The day when neither wealth will benefit nor will sons.” 88 But only one who comes to Allah with a sound heart." 89 For, [on that Day,] paradise will be brought within sight of the God-conscious, 90 whereas the blazing fire will be laid open before those who had been lost in grievous error; 91 and they will be asked: "Where now is all that you were wont to worship 92 apart from God? Do they help you or help themselves?' 93 Then the idols and those who strayed will be hurled into the Fire headlong, one upon another, 94 And the hosts of Iblis, together. 95 "Quarrelling therein with each other, 96 'By God, we were certainly in manifest error 97 "'When we held you as equals with the Lord of the Worlds; 98 It was nothing but the evildoers who led us astray. 99 “So now we do not have any intercessors.” (The believers shall have intercessors, the disbelievers none). 100 Nor any sincere friend. 101 (Alas!) If we only had a chance to return (to the world), we shall truly be among the believers! 102 Verily there is a sign in this, but many of them do not believe. 103 And verily thy Lord! He is the Mighty, the Merciful. 104
