Thamud (people) belied the Messenger. 141 When their brother Salih said unto them: Will ye not ward off (evil)? 142 Truly, I am a trustworthy messenger for you, 143 "So fear Allah, keep your duty to Him, and obey me. 144 "No reward do I ask of you for it (my Message of Islamic Monotheism), my reward is only from the Lord of the 'Alamin (mankind, jinns and all that exists). 145 Do you think that you will be left secure [forever] -- 146 amidst gardens and fountains, 147 And corn-fields and palm-trees whereof the spathes are fine? 148 And you carve out of the mountains, homes, with skill. 149 Therefore guard against (the punishment of) Allah and obey me; 150 and pay no heed to the counsel of those who are given to excesses 151 who do corruption in the earth, and set not things aright.' 152 They said: "Thou art only one of those bewitched! 153 you are no different from a mortal like us. So produce a sign if you are truthful." 154 He said: yonder is a she-camel; to her a drink, and to you a drink, each on a day known. 155 Do not treat her unkindly or the punishment of a grievous day will fall on you." 156 But they hamstrung her and so became regretful. 157 and torment struck them. In this there is evidence of the Truth, yet many people do not have any faith. 158 And verily thy Lord is He, the Exalted in Might, Most Merciful. 159
