The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
I swear by the sun and its brilliance, 1 By the moon when it followeth it, 2 And by oath of the day when it reveals it 3 And the night when it draws a veil over it, 4 Consider the sky and its wondrous make, 5 And the earth and Him Who extended it, 6 Consider the human self, and how it is formed in accordance with what it is meant to be, 7 And its enlightenment as to its wrong and its right;- 8 He is indeed successful who causeth it to grow, 9 and he who suppresses it will be ruined. 10 The Thamud (people) rejected (their prophet) through their inordinate wrong-doing, 11 when the most corrupt of them incited them (to commit evil). 12 the Messenger of Allah said to them: '(This is) the shecamel of Allah, let her drink' 13 But they denied him and hamstrung her. So their Lord brought down upon them destruction for their sin and made it equal [upon all of them]. 14 He did not fear the consequences. 15
