A multitude of those of old 39 And a multitude of those of later time. 40 As for the People on the Left: how miserable will be the People on the Left! 41 In hot wind and boiling water, 42 And a shade of black smoke, 43 Neither cool nor pleasant. 44 They had lived in luxury before this 45 And they used to persist in the great violation, 46 And they used to say, "When we are dead and have turned into dust and bones, will we surely be raised again?" 47 And also our forefathers? 48 Say thou: verily the ancients and those of later generations: 49 "They will all be gathered together - on the appointed time of the known day." 50 and then, verily, O you who have gone astray and called the truth a lie, 51 "Ye will surely taste of the Tree of Zaqqum. 52 "Then will ye fill your insides therewith, 53 And thereon ye will drink of boiling water, 54 and you will drink as the lapping of thirsty camels. 55 Such will be their entertainment on the Day of Requital! 56 We have created you, so why do you not believe? 57 Have you seen sperm? 58 Do you create it, or We are its creator? 59 We have decreed death to you all, and We are not unable, 60 That We may transfigure you and make you what ye know not. 61 You have certainly known the first creation. Why, then, do you not take heed? 62 And have you seen that [seed] which you sow? 63 Cause it ye to grow, or are We the Grower? 64 [For,] were it Our will, We could indeed turn it into chaff, and you would be left to wonder [and to lament,] 65 Lo! we are laden with debt! 66 Surely, we have been deprived (of the benefits)". 67 Have you seen the water which you drink? 68 Is it you that send it down from the clouds or We? 69 Did We will, We would make it bitter; so why are you not thankful? 70 Have you ever considered the fire which you kindle? 71 Did you make its tree grow or was it We Who made it grow? 72 We have made it as a reminder of hell and as a utility for travellers in the jungle. 73 So exalt the name of your Lord, the Most Great. 74
