The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
There hath asked an asker for the torment about to befall. 1 those who deny the truth. [Know, then, that] nothing can ward it off, 2 from God, the Lord of the Stairways. 3 To Him ascend the angels and the Spirit in a day the measure of which is fifty thousand years. 4 Wherefore be thou patient with a becoming patience. 5 Surely they think it to be far off, 6 but We see it to be very near. 7 The day the sky becomes like molten brass, 8 and the mountains will become like tufts of wool, 9 And no friend inquires after friend 10 Though within sight of one another. The sinner would like to ransom himself from the torment of that Day by offering his sons, 11 his wife, his brother, 12 And his kin that sheltered him. 13 and of whoever [else] lives on earth, all of them - so that he could but save himself. 14 By no means! Verily it is a Flame. 15 It snatches away by the scalps, 16 It calleth him who turned and fled (from truth), 17 And collect (wealth) and hide it (from use)! 18 ۞ Surely man is greedy by nature. 19 bewailing when evil befalls him, 20 And niggardly when good befalls him 21 except those that pray, 22 who are constant in prayer; 23 and those in whose wealth there is a known right 24 For the beggar and the destitute; 25 those who firmly believe in the Day of Recompense, 26 and fear the chastisement of their Lord – 27 Lo! the doom of their Lord is that before which none can feel secure - 28 and those who guard their private parts, 29 Except in the case of their wives or those whom their right hands possess-- for these surely are not to be blamed, 30 but those who go beyond that limit are transgressors; 31 And those who respect their trusts and covenants; 32 and those who stand by their testimony 33 And those who guard their Salat (prayers) well. 34 Those shall be in gardens, honored. 35
