The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
O you who covers himself [with a garment], 1 Arise and warn, 2 and magnify the glory of your Lord, 3 Thy raiment purify, 4 And pollution shun. 5 And do not through giving seek thyself to gain, 6 And be patient for the sake of your Lord (i.e. perform your duty to Allah)! 7 And when the trumpet is blown, 8 It will be a day of distress, 9 Not of ease, for disbelievers. 10 Leave Me alone with he whom I created 11 and to whom I have granted resources vast, 12 and sons ever present with him, 13 and made all things smooth for him; 14 and who still greedily desires that I should bestow upon him more. 15 By no means; he is stubbornly opposed to Our Signs. 16 We shall make him suffer the torment of hell without relief. 17 For he thought and he plotted -- 18 Ruin seize him, how did he hatch a scheme? 19 Again accursed be he, how evilly did he decide! 20 Then he looked around, 21 then frowned and scowled; 22 then he retreated, and waxed proud. 23 And said: "This is nothing but the magic of old, 24 This is nothing but the word of a mortal!" 25 [Hence,] I shall cause him to endure hell-fire [in the life to come]! 26 And what can make you know what is Saqar? 27 It spares nothing; it leaves nothing intact; 28 It glows and burns the skin. 29 Over it are appointed nineteen. 30 And We have not made the keepers of the Fire except angels. And We have not made their number except as a trial for those who disbelieve - that those who were given the Scripture will be convinced and those who have believed will increase in faith and those who were given the Scripture and the believers will not doubt and that those in whose hearts is hypocrisy and the disbelievers will say, "What does Allah intend by this as an example?" Thus does Allah leave astray whom He wills and guides whom He wills. And none knows the soldiers of your Lord except Him. And mention of the Fire is not but a reminder to humanity. 31
