The Night (Al-Layl)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By oath of the night when it covers 1 By the Day as it appears in glory; 2 And by Him Who created male and female; 3 Lo! your effort is dispersed (toward divers ends). 4 As for him who gives (in charity) and keeps his duty to Allah and fears Him, 5 And believed the best matter to be true 6 Surely We will ease his way unto the state of ease. 7 But as for one who is miserly and unheeding, 8 and he belied the finest 9 We will facilitate for him the difficult end. 10 and his wealth shall be of no avail to him when he perishes. 11 Lo! Ours it is (to give) the guidance 12 and, behold, Ours is [the dominion over] the life to come as well as [over] this earlier part [of your life]: 13 Now I have warned you of a Fire that flames, 14 where none shall burn except the most wicked, 15 even he who cried lies, and turned away; 16 and from which the most godfearing shall be removed, 17 Who gives away his wealth, purifying himself 18 And who hath no favour from anyone to recompense. 19 acting only for the sake of his Lord the Most High -- 20 And indeed, soon he will be very pleased. 21
