The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
19 verses, revealed in Mecca. First revelation of the Quran before The Pen (Al-Qalam)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Read in the name of your Lord Who created. 1 Created man from an embryo; 2 Read, and your Lord only is the Most Beneficent, 3 Who taught by the pen - 4 He taught the human being what he did not know. 5 No indeed; surely Man waxes insolent, 6 that he sees himself sufficed. 7 Indeed towards your Lord only is the return. 8 Have you seen the one who prohibits 9 A servant when he prays? 10 Did you consider: what if he is on the Right Way, 11 Or enjoins righteousness? 12 Have you considered if he gives the lie to the truth and turns (his) back? 13 Does he not know that Allah does see? 14 Let him beware! If he desist not, We will drag him by the forelock,- 15 A forelock, lying, sinning. 16 So let him call his associates, 17 We, will call the Zabania (the harsh angels of Hell). 18 No indeed! Do not obey him, but prostrate yourself and come closer to God. ۩ 19
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
