The Night (Al-Layl)
21 verses, revealed in Mecca after The All High (Al-A'alaa) before Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
By the night when it envelopeth, 1 And by the day as it appears in brightness; 2 and by the creation of the male and the female. 3 Indeed your efforts differ. 4 As for one who gives [to others] and fears [God], 5 And (in all sincerity) testifies to the best,- 6 Unto him therefore We shall indeed make easy the path to ease. 7 But as for him who is niggardly, and thinks that he is self-sufficient, 8 and calls the ultimate good a lie 9 Unto him therefore We shall Indeed make easy the path to hardship. 10 and his wealth shall be of no avail to him when he perishes. 11 Surely, it is for Us to provide guidance -- 12 And lo! unto Us belong the latter portion and the former. 13 and so I warn you of the raging fire 14 None except the most wicked will enter it. 15 Who denies and turns away. 16 But save him who fears 17 who spend for the cause of God and purify themselves. 18 not as payment for favours received, 19 Except only the desire to seek the Countenance of his Lord, the Most High; 20 And soon will they attain (complete) satisfaction. 21
