He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ He frowned and turned (his) back, 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 Yet for all thou didst know, [O Muhammad,] he might perhaps have grown in purity, 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and that the admonition might profit him? 4 As for him who is not in want of any thing, 5 you attended to him, 6 Though it is no blame to thee if he grow not (in spiritual understanding). 7 but as for one who comes to you, eagerly 8 And with fear (in his heart), 9 you pay no heed to him. 10 These verses are a reminder 11 So whoever wills, let him pay attention to it. 12 In honored books, 13 Exalted, pure. 14 by the hands of scribes 15 noble and purified. 16 May (the disbelieving) human being be condemned! What makes him disbelieve? 17 Of what thing did He create him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm He creates him, and thereupon determines his nature, 19 then the way eased for him, 20 then makes him to die, and buries him, 21 then, He will raise him when He wills. 22 Nay, but man did not fulfil what Allah had enjoined upon him. 23 So let man just consider his food: 24 We send down abundant water, 25 and then We cleave the earth [with new growth,] cleaving it asunder, 26 to yield therein corn, 27 together with grapes and vegetables, 28 And the olive and the palm, 29 And thick gardens, 30 fruits, and grass. 31 an enjoyment for you and your flocks. 32 AND SO, when the piercing call [of resurrection] is heard 33 upon the day when a man shall flee from his brother, 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 As well as his wife and children. 36 Every man that day will have concern enough to make him heedless (of others). 37 On that day faces will be bright as dawn, 38 laughing and joyous 39 but some faces will be covered with dust 40 Blackness will cover them: 41 These will be the unbelievers, the wicked. 42
