The chiefs of Pharaoh's people said: Lo! this is some knowing wizard, 109 “He wishes to expel you all from your kingdom; so what do you advise?” 110 They said, "Let him and his brother wait awhile, and send into the cities summoners, 111 "That they bring up to you all well-versed sorcerers." 112 The sorcerers came to Pharaoh. They said: 'Shall we be rewarded if we are the winners' 113 He said, “Yes, and you will then become close to me.” 114 They said: O Moses! Either throw (first) or let us be the first throwers? 115 "You cast it first," answered Moses. When they cast their spell, they bewitched the eyes of the people and petrified them by conjuring up a great charm. 116 Then We directed Moses: 'Now you throw your rod.' And lo! it swallowed up all their false devices. 117 ۞ Thus the truth was upheld, and the falsehood that they practised was exposed. 118 Thus they were vanquished there, and they went back abased. 119 And the sorcerers were cast down, bowing themselves. 120 They said: we believe in the Lord of the worlds. 121 the Lord of Moses and Aaron.' 122 Pharaoh said: 'Do you believe in Him before I permit? This is a plot that you have contrived in the city in order to expel its people from it. Now you shall know! 123 "I will have your hands and feet on alternate sides cut off, and have you all crucified." 124 They answered: "We have (in any case) to go back to our Lord. 125 Will you punish us just because we believed in the signs of our Lord when they came to us? Our Lord! Shower us with perseverance and cause us to die as those who have submitted [to You].' 126
