Indeed this is a revelation from the Lord of the Universe; 192 The honest Spirit (Gabriel) brought it down 193 To thy heart and mind, that thou mayest admonish. 194 In the plain Arabic language. 195 And indeed, it is [mentioned] in the scriptures of former peoples. 196 Is not the fact (that the Israelite scholars already knew about the Quran through their Book) sufficient evidence for the pagans of the truthfulness (of the Quran)? 197 And if we had revealed it to any of the foreigners 198 And he had read it unto them, even then they would not have been believers therein. 199 Thus have We caused this [message] to pass [unheeded] through the hearts of those who are lost in sin: 200 they shall not believe in it until they see the painful punishment 201 But the (Penalty) will come to them of a sudden, while they perceive it not; 202 And they will say, "May we be reprieved?" 203 Do they wish to hasten Our punishment? 204 What thinkest thou? If We give them enjoyment of days for many years, 205 Then there comes to them that with which they are threatened, 206 of what avail will be the provisions of life which they have been granted to enjoy? 207 And We destroyed not a city but it had its warners. 208 By way of admonition, and We have never been oppressors. 209 It was not the devils who brought down the Quran: 210 They are unworthy of it, nor can they do it. 211 Indeed they have been removed far from even (a chance of) hearing it. 212 So do not call on any deity besides God, lest you incur His punishment. 213 and warn your nearest kinsmen; 214 Lower thy wing to those who follow thee, being believers; 215 If they disobey you, say: 'I am quit of what you do' 216 Have trust in the Mighty, the Merciful, 217 who sees you when you stand up [for prayer], 218 and [sees] thy behaviour among those who prostrate themselves [before Him]: 219 Indeed only He is the All Hearing, the All Knowing. 220 [And] shall I tell you upon whom it is that those evil spirits descend? 221 They come to every sinful liar. 222 They pass on what is heard, and most of them are liars. 223 As for the poets, the erring follow them, 224 Do you not see how they wander aimlessly in every valley, 225 and they say what they do not do? 226 Except those who believe and do good and remember Allah much, and defend themselves after they are oppressed; and they who act unjustly shall know to what final place of turning they shall turn back. 227
