The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ When the sky is rent asunder 1 And it hearkeneth to its Lord, and is duteous. 2 and when the earth is leveled, 3 And it unburdens itself of all that is in it, and becomes empty. 4 And listens and obeys its Lord, and it must do so; 5 O Man! Thou art labouring unto thy Lord laboriously, and thou shalt encounter Him. 6 Then as to him who is given his book in his right hand, 7 Will have an easy reckoning, 8 And return to his people in happiness. 9 But as for those whose Book of records will be given behind their backs, 10 He shall call for perdition, 11 And enter into burning fire. 12 He used to live joyfully among his people, 13 Truly, did he think that he would not have to return (to Us)! 14 Nay, but lo! his Lord is ever looking on him! 15 So by oath of the late evening’s light. 16 and the night, and what it [step by step] unfolds, 17 or by the moon when it is full, 18 [even thus, O men,] are you bound to move; onward from stage to stage. 19 What is the matter with them, that they do not believe 20 And when the Qur’an is recited to them, they do not fall prostrate? (Command of Prostration # 13) ۩ 21 Instead, the unbelievers reject it, calling it a lie. 22 Allah knows best what they are accumulating (in their Record). 23 Therefore, give them the news of a painful punishment. 24 Save those who believe and do righteous good deeds, for them is a reward that will never come to an end (i.e. Paradise). 25
