Alshu'araa' 2 of 11
And (remember) when your Lord said to Moosa, “Go to the unjust people.” 10 The people of Pharaoh. Will they not fear and take heed?" 11 He said, 'My Lord, I fear they will cry me lies, 12 My breast is constricted and my tongue is not fluent, so endow Messengership on Aaron. 13 They have charged me [with a crime] for which I am afraid they will kill me." 14 God said, "Indeed not; go both of you with Our signs, We shall be with you, listening [to your call]. 15 Go to Pharaoh and say, 'We are the messengers of the Lord of the worlds, 16 (Saying): Let the Children of Israel go with us. 17 [But when Moses had delivered his message, Pharaoh] said: "Did we not bring thee up among us when thou wert a child? And didst thou not spend among us years of thy [later] life? 18 And [then] you did your deed which you did, and you were of the ungrateful." 19 Said Moosa, “I did that at a time when I was unaware of the consequences.” (In anger – See verse 28:15) 20 and I fled from you because I feared you. Then my Lord granted me wisdom and made me one of the messengers. 21 And is it a favor of which you remind me that you have enslaved the children of Israel? 22 Fir'awn said: and what is the Lord of the worlds? 23 Moses replied, "The Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them, if you want to be certain". 24 (Pharaoh) said unto those around him: Hear ye not? 25 Moses continued, "He is the Lord and the Lord of your forefathers." 26 The Pharaoh said, "The Messenger who has been sent to you is certainly insane". 27 He said, 'The Lord of the East and West, and what between them is, if you have understanding,' 28 Pharaoh said: "If you take any god other than me, I will certainly make you one of those (who are rotting) in prison." 29 'What, even if I brought you something clear' said he (Moses). 30 He (Pharaoh) replied: 'Show us your sign, if you are of the truthful' 31 (No sooner had he said this than) Moses threw down his rod and behold, it was a veritable serpent, 32 And he drew out his hand, and it appeared [shining] white to the beholders. 33
