The Thamud tribe denied the Noble Messengers. 141 When their brother Salih said unto them: fear ye not? 142 "I am to you a messenger worthy of all trust. 143 So fear Allah, and obey me. 144 "No reward do I ask of you for it: my reward is only from the Lord of the Worlds. 145 Shall ye be left secure in that which is here before us. 146 amidst [these] gardens and springs 147 and fields, and [these] palm-trees with slender spathes? 148 “And you carve out dwellings in the mountains, with skill?” 149 So fear Allah and obey me. 150 "And follow not the bidding of those who are extravagant,- 151 who corrupt in the earth, and do not reform' 152 Said they: "Thou art but one of the bewitched! 153 You are a mere mortal like us. Show us a miracle if you are telling the Truth". 154 He said, "This is a she-camel. For her is a [time of] drink, and for you is a [time of] drink, [each] on a known day. 155 Do not cause her to suffer lest you become subject to the torment of the great day (of Judgment)." 156 Then they hamstrung her; and then they became regretful. 157 so the punishment came down upon them. Surely in that there is a sign, but most of them would not believe. 158 And most surely your Lord is the Mighty, the Merciful. 159
