Noah (Nooh)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
We sent Noah to his people, saying, 'Warn thy people, ere there come on them a painful chastisement.' 1 [And Noah] said: "O my people! I am but a plain warner to you, [sent to tell you] 2 Worship Allah, and fear Him, and obey me. 3 He will forgive you some of your faults and grant you a delay to an appointed term; surely the term of Allah when it comes is not postponed; did you but know! 4 [And after a time, Noah] said: "O my Sustainer! Verily, I have been calling unto my people night and day 5 but it has had no effect on them except to make them run away. 6 And lo! whenever I call unto them that Thou mayst pardon them they thrust their fingers in their ears and cover themselves with their garments and persist (in their refusal) and magnify themselves in pride. 7 "Then verily, I called to them openly (aloud); 8 "Further I have spoken to them in public and secretly in private, 9 "Ask for forgiveness of your Lord," I said. "Surely, He is the Forgiver. 10 He will send [rain from] the sky upon you in [continuing] showers 11 And give you increase in wealth and children and provide for you gardens and provide for you rivers. 12 What is the matter with you, [that you fear not Allah (His punishment), and] you hope not for reward (from Allah or you believe not in His Oneness). 13 And surely He hath created you by stages. 14 See you not how Allah has created the seven heavens one above another, 15 And made the moon therein a [reflected] light and made the sun a burning lamp? 16 God produced you from the earth like a vegetable growth; 17 Then He returns you to it, then will He bring you forth a (new) bringing forth: 18 ‘And it is Allah Who made the earth a bed for you.’ 19 So that you may walk upon its spacious paths.' 20
