Nay, by the moon, 32 By the night when it departs. 33 And by the dawn when it brightens, 34 This is but one of the mighty (portents), 35 a warning to humans, 36 To him among you who wishes to go forward or remain behind. 37 Every soul is a pledge for its own deeds; 38 Except those on the Right, (i.e. the pious true believers of Islamic Monotheism); 39 who in their gardens will be enquiring 40 Of evil-doers: 41 What has brought you into hell? 42 They shall say: We were not of those who prayed; 43 Nor did we used to feed the poor. 44 We used to wade (in vain dispute) with (all) waders, 45 and we denied the Day of Judgement 46 "Until there came to us (the death) that is certain." 47 The mediation of no mediators will avail them then. 48 Why then do they turn away from the admonition 49 As if they were affrighted asses, 50 fleeing from a lion? 51 Nay; every one of them desires that he may be given pages spread out; 52 Never! In fact they do not fear the Hereafter. 53 Nay! it is surely an admonition. 54 Let anyone who seeks guidance do so. 55 they will only take heed if God so wills: He is the Lord who is worthy to be feared: the Lord of forgiveness. 56
