The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ What are they questioning each other about? 1 About the Great News 2 concerning which they are in disagreement! 3 (What they think is certainly despicable!). They will soon come to know (the reality). 4 Nay, again, but they will come to know! 5 Did We not make the earth a spreading, 6 and the mountains as pegs (to anchor the earth)? 7 And We created you in pairs, 8 and We appointed your sleep for a rest; 9 and the night as a cover, 10 and We made the day for a livelihood. 11 And We have builded over you seven strong heavens. 12 and We appointed a blazing lamp 13 From the rain clouds We send waters pouring down in abundance, 14 so that We may thereby bring forth grain and vegetation, 15 And orchards full of trees and interlacing boughs. 16 VERILY, the Day of Distinction [between the true and the false] has indeed its appointed time: 17 The day the trumpet blast is sounded you will come in hordes; 18 and when the skies are opened and become [as wide-flung] gates; 19 and when the mountains are made to vanish as if they had been a mirage. 20 Surely, Hell lies in wait, 21 For the exorbitant a receptacle. 22 They will tarry therein for ages. 23 tasting therein neither coolness nor any drink 24 Except boiling water and benumbing cold: 25 for a suitable recompense. 26 Verily they were wont not to look for a reckoning. 27 And called Our communications a lie, giving the lie (to the truth). 28 But all things We have enumerated in writing. 29 So taste (of that which ye have earned). No increase do We give you save of torment. 30
