Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
Have you heard the story of the overwhelming event (the Day of Judgment)? 1 (Some) faces on that day shall be downcast, 2 labouring, toilworn, 3 (Yet) Going into the blazing fire. 4 The while they are given, to drink, of a boiling hot spring, 5 No food will there be for them but a poisonous thorny plant, 6 Which will neither nourish nor avail against hunger. 7 Faces on that day jocund, 8 Rejoicing over their efforts. 9 In a lofty Paradise. 10 wherein they shall hear no vain talk. 11 In it is a flowing spring. 12 raised couches, 13 And cups set at hand. 14 and cushions arrayed 15 and carpets spread out. 16 Do they not look at the Camels, how they are made?- 17 And at the heaven, how it is raised? 18 And at the Mountains, how they are fixed firm?- 19 And at the Earth, how it is spread out? 20 Therefore remind, you are only a Reminder. 21 Thou art not at all a warder over them. 22 As for those who turn their back and disbelieve, 23 him will God cause to suffer the greatest suffering [in the life to come]: 24 Truly, to Us is their return; 25 Then indeed, upon Us is their account. 26
