The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
And by the sun and its brightness; 1 And [by] the moon when it follows it 2 And the day when it revealeth him, 3 And [by] the night when it covers it 4 And by oath of the heaven and by oath of Him Who made it. 5 By the earth and Him Who spread it forth, 6 and by the soul and by Him Who perfectly proportioned it, 7 and how it is imbued with moral failings as well as with consciousness of God! 8 He who purifies it will prosper, 9 and those who corrupt their souls will certainly be deprived (of happiness). 10 The tribe of Thamud denied with rebellion. 11 When the basest of them broke forth 12 So the Noble Messenger of Allah said to them, “Stay away from the she camel of Allah, and from its turn to drink.” 13 But they rejected his statement as a lie and hamstrung the she-camel. For that crime their Lord rumbled down upon them, utterly razing them to the ground. 14 God is not afraid of the result of what He had decreed. 15
