The Ad gave the lie to the Messengers. 123 When their brother Hud said to them: "Will you not fear Allah and obey Him? 124 "I am to you a messenger worthy of all trust: 125 so fear you God, and obey you me. 126 And I ask of you no hire therefor: my hire is but with the Lord of the worlds. 127 "Do you build useless monuments on every mountain 128 and raise strong mansions as if you were to live forever? 129 And will you [always,] whenever you lay hand [on others,] lay hand [on them] cruelly, without any restraint? 130 So fear Allah and obey me. 131 and [thus] be conscious of Him who has [so] amply provided you with all [the good] that you might think of 132 “He aided you with cattle and sons.” 133 And gardens and watersprings. 134 I fear for you the chastisement of an Awesome Day." 135 They said, “It is the same for us, whether you advise us or not be of the preachers.” 136 This is just a habit of antiquated people. 137 And we are not going to be punished. 138 Eventually they gave the lie to him and We destroyed them. Surely there is a Sign in this, but most of them would not believe. 139 And indeed your Lord – only He is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 140
