The Thamud tribe denied the Noble Messengers. 141 When their brother Salih (Saleh) said to them: "Will you not fear Allah and obey Him? 142 I have been sent as a trusted messenger to you. 143 "So fear Allah, keep your duty to Him, and obey me. 144 I do not ask any recompense of you for this. My reward is due from none but the Lord of all the worlds. 145 Do you believe that you will be left here to live securely in the present state 146 In gardens and fountains, 147 And cornfields and palm-trees having fine spadices? 148 Will you still skilfully hew houses out of the mountains? 149 “Therefore fear Allah and obey me.” 150 and obey not the commandment of the prodigal 151 "Who make mischief in the land, and mend not (their ways)." 152 They said: "You are only of those bewitched! 153 You are a mere mortal like us. Show us a miracle if you are telling the Truth". 154 He said, "Here is a she-camel. She shall have her turn of drinking, as you have yours, each on an appointed day, 155 And do not touch her with evil, lest the punishment of a grievous day should overtake you. 156 They slew the she-camel, but later became regretful 157 so the punishment came down upon them. Surely in that there is a sign, but most of them would not believe. 158 But, verily, thy Sustainer - He alone - is almighty, a dispenser of grace! 159
