The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
ONE who is minded to ask might ask about the suffering which [in the hereafter] is bound to befall 1 The infidels, of which there is no averter. 2 [It is] from Allah, owner of the ways of ascent. 3 all the angels and all the inspiration [ever granted to man] ascend unto Him [daily,] in a day the length whereof is [like] fifty thousand years… 4 Therefore, [O believer,] endure all adversity with goodly patience: 5 Surely they think it to be far off, 6 Whereas We see it impending. 7 The day when the sky will be like molten silver. 8 and the mountains will become like dyed tufts of wool, 9 No loyal friend will ask another loyal friend 10 though they may be in one another's sight: [for,] everyone who was lost in sin will on that Day but desire to ransom himself from suffering at the price of his own children, 11 His wife and his brother, 12 and his kinsfolk who gave him shelter, 13 And all that are in the earth, if then it might deliver him. 14 But no! There is a raging blaze 15 It snatches away by the scalps, 16 and it shall call him who withdrew and turned his back 17 Who amasses and then hoards. 18 ۞ Verily man is impatient by nature: 19 When evil toucheth him, he is bewailing. 20 And niggardly when good reaches him;- 21 Except those devoted to Salat (prayers) 22 Those who are constant in their prayer 23 And those in whose riches is a known right. 24 to those who ask [for help] and to the destitute; 25 And those who testify to the Day of Requital. 26 And those who fear the displeasure of their Lord,- 27 Verily the torment of their Lord is not a thing to feel secure from. 28 And those who guard their chastity, 29 except in regard to their spouses and those whom their right hands possess, for in regard to them they are not reproachable, 30 but those who go beyond that limit are transgressors; 31 And those who are to their trusts and promises attentive 32 and who stand firm whenever they bear witness; 33 and who observe their prayers. 34 They will be in gardens, honored. 35
