The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ I do not (need to) swear by this town (Mecca) 1 and you are dwelling in this city -- 2 and by parent and offspring, 3 Certainly We have created man to be in distress. 4 Does he think that none has power over him! 5 He says: "I have wasted a great deal of wealth." 6 Does he, then, think that no one sees him? 7 Have We not given him two eyes, 8 And a tongue and two lips, 9 and guided him on the two paths (of good and evil)? 10 But he could not scale the steep ascent. 11 And what will make you comprehend what the uphill road is? 12 It is freeing someone's neck from slavery; 13 Or the feeding on a day of hunger. 14 To an orphan, having relationship, 15 or to a destitute lying in dust; 16 Then he is of those who believe and charge one another to show patience, and charge one another to show compassion. 17 Those who do so are the people of the right hand, 18 And (as for) those who disbelieve in our communications, they are the people of the left hand. 19 Over them will be fire closed in. 20
God the Almighty always says the truth.
