Samood gave the lie to the apostles 141 When their brother Salih said to them, "Will you not fear God? 142 I have been sent as a trusted messenger to you. 143 So fear Allah, and obey me. 144 "And no reward whatever do I ask of you for it: my reward rests with none but the Sustainer of all the worlds. 145 Will you be left secure in this here, 146 among gardens and fountains, 147 sown fields and palmtrees, with slender spathes. 148 And dwellings hewed out of mountains ingeniously? 149 "Be, then, conscious of God, and pay heed unto me, 150 and pay no heed to the counsel of those who are given to excesses 151 Who work corruption in the land and rectify not. 152 They said: "You are only of those bewitched! 153 you are no different from a mortal like us. So produce a sign if you are truthful." 154 He said, 'This is a she-camel; to her a draught and to you a draught, on a day appointed, 155 And do not touch her with evil, lest the punishment of a grievous day should overtake you. 156 But they killed her, and then they became regretful. 157 and torment struck them. In this there is evidence of the Truth, yet many people do not have any faith. 158 Your Lord is Majestic and All-merciful. 159
