Messengers! Eat of that which is good and do good deeds; I have knowledge of the things you do. 51 And surely this your religion is one religion and I am your Lord, therefore be careful (of your duty) to Me. 52 Then they cut their affair among them in regard to the Scriptures; each band in that which is with them rejoicing. 53 Leave them in their perplexity for a time. 54 Do they think that in giving them wealth and children 55 Are quickly giving them goodness? In fact, they do not know. 56 Indeed those who are overwhelmed due to the fear of their Lord – 57 And they who believe in the signs of their Lord 58 And those who join not anyone (in worship) as partners with their Lord; 59 And those who give whatsoever they give, while their hearts are anxious that unto their Lord they are to be returners. 60 It is these who hasten in every good work, and these who are foremost in them. 61 And We charge no soul except [with that within] its capacity, and with Us is a record which speaks with truth; and they will not be wronged. 62 But their hearts are covered with confusion over this, and they have [evil] deeds besides disbelief which they are doing, 63 But then when We seize the affluent among them, they will cry out for help. 64 Implore not today; verily ye from Us are not to be succoured. 65 My Signs were rehearsed to you and you turned back on your heels and took to flight, 66 behaving arrogantly, and making fun, and talking nonsense (about the Book in your nightly chats)." 67 Is it then that they do not ponder over what is said, or is it that there has come to them that which did not come to their fathers of old? 68 Or know they not their messenger, and so reject him? 69 Or they say, “He is afflicted by a demon”; in fact he brought the Truth to them, and most of them dislike the Truth. 70 Had truth been subject to their whims the heavens and the earth and all those within them would have been depraved. In fact We had sent them their reminder, but they turned away from good advice. 71 Or, do you ask a tribute from them? Your Lord's tribute is better. He is the Best of providers. 72 You are calling them to a Straight Way, 73 but, behold, those who will not believe in the life to come are bound to deviate from that way. 74 ۞ If We had mercy on them and removed their afflictions, they would still persist in their insolence, blindly wandering. 75 We inflicted Punishment on them, but they humbled not themselves to their Lord, nor do they submissively entreat (Him)!- 76 To the extent that when We opened the gate of a severe punishment for them, they thereupon lie despairingly in it. 77
