Elucidated (Fussilat)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
Ha-Meem. (Alphabets of the Arabic language – Allah, and to whomever He reveals, know their precise meanings.) 1 This (Qur’an) is sent down from the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. 2 a divine writ, the messages whereof have been clearly spelled out as a discourse in the Arabic tongue for people of [innate] knowledge, 3 Good tidings and a warning. But most of them turn away so that they hear not. 4 And they say: Our hearts are protected from that unto which thou (O Muhammad) callest us, and in our ears there is a deafness, and between us and thee there is a veil. Act, then. Lo! we also shall be acting. 5 Tell them, (O Prophet): “I am only a human being like you. It is revealed to me that your God is One God; so direct yourselves straight to Him, and seek His forgiveness. Woe to those who associate others with Allah in His Divinity, 6 who do not pay Zakah, and who deny the Hereafter. 7 For those who believe and work deeds of righteousness is a reward that will never fail. 8
