The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ ABOUT WHAT do they [most often] ask one another? 1 (It is) of the awful tidings, 2 that they are in utter disagreement? 3 Nay, but in time they will come to understand [it]! 4 Nay, again, but they will come to know! 5 Have We not made the earth an expanse. 6 And the mountains as pegs? 7 And We created you in pairs, 8 And We made your sleep to be rest (to you), 9 and the night as a cover, 10 And made the day for seeking livelihood. 11 We have built above you seven mighty heavens, 12 And placed (therein) a Light of Splendour? 13 And have sent down from the rainy clouds abundant water, 14 that We may bring forth with it grain, plants 15 and gardens dense with foliage? 16 Surely the Day of Decision is an appointed time, 17 The Day that the Trumpet shall be sounded, and ye shall come forth in crowds; 18 And the heaven is opened and will become gateways 19 and the mountains are set in motion, and become a vapour. 20 [On that Day,] verily, hell will lie in wait [for those who deny the truth] 21 It will be a place of return 22 Living therein for ages. 23 Neither coolness shall they taste therein nor any [thirst-quenching] drink 24 Except hot boiling water and hot pus discharged from the people of hell. 25 A fitting recompense (for them). 26 for they never expected to be called to account, 27 And called Our communications a lie, giving the lie (to the truth). 28 And all things We have recorded in a Book. 29 "So taste ye (the fruits of your deeds); for no increase shall We grant you, except in Punishment." 30
