Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ Nay! I swear by this city 1 And you are free to live upon it, -- 2 And the parent and the offspring, 3 Verily We have created man into toil and struggle. 4 Does he think then that no one has power over him? 5 He says: "I have wasted a great deal of wealth." 6 Does man think that no one saw him? 7 Have We not made for him two eyes? 8 and a tongue and two lips? 9 And shown unto him the two highways? 10 But he has made no effort to pass on the path that is steep. 11 Ah, what will convey unto thee what the Ascent is! - 12 (It is) to free a slave, 13 or, in a day of famine, the feeding of 14 To an orphan, having relationship, 15 Or of a homeless needy person! 16 And moreover to be of those who accepted faith, and who urged patience to one another and who urged graciousness to one another. 17 Such are they that have attained to righteousness; 18 As for those who rejected Our Signs, they are the People of the Left Hand. 19 On them will be Fire vaulted over (all round). 20
Allah Almighty has spoken the truth.
