The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
Recite: In the Name of thy Lord who created, 1 created the human from a (blood) clot. 2 Read! Your Lord is the Most Bountiful One 3 Who taught (to write) with the pen 4 Taught man what he did not know. 5 Despite this, the human being still tends to rebel 6 For he thinks he is sufficient in himself. 7 Surely to your Lord is the return. 8 Hast thou seen him who dissuadeth 9 a servant [of God] from praying? 10 What is your opinion – if he were upon guidance, 11 Or enjoins Righteousness? 12 What will happen if the prohibiting rejects the Truth and turns away from it!? 13 does he not know that Allah sees? 14 Nay! If he (Abu Jahl) ceases not, We will catch him by the forelock, 15 By the lying, the sinful forelock. 16 Then let him call his associates; 17 We will now call the guards! 18 Nay, pay thou no heed to him, but prostrate thyself [before God] and draw close [unto Him]! ۩ 19
