The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ Alif Lam Ra. Those are the signs of the Book and of a manifest Koran. 1 Perhaps those who disbelieve will wish that they had been Muslims. 2 Let them eat and enjoy; and let their hopes deceive them, soon they shall know. 3 Not one habitation have We destroyed but at the time determined for it. 4 and no nation outstrips its term, nor do they put it back. 5 And they say: O you to whom the Reminder has been revealed! you are most surely insane: 6 Why do you not bring down the angels, if what you say is true' 7 We do not send down angels except for a genuine purpose, at which time none will be given any further respite. 8 Verily We! it is We who have revealed the admonition, and verily We are the guardians thereof. 9 We have sent forth before you Messengers among the factions of the ancients. 10 And no messenger would come to them except that they ridiculed him. 11 Even so We make a way for it (that is, the Admonition) in the hearts of the culprits (like a hot rod); 12 They will not believe in it, though they have before them the example of former peoples, 13 Yet even had We opened to them a gateway to heaven and they had ascended, on and on, up to it, 14 They would say, "Our eyes have only been dazzled. Rather, we are a people affected by magic." 15
