The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O YOU ENFOLDED in your mantle (of reform), 1 Arise, and warn, 2 Glorify your Lord, 3 And thy garments keep free from stain! 4 And keep away from Ar-Rujz (the idols)! 5 Do not give, thinking to gain greater 6 And persevere in the way of your Lord. 7 When the Trumpet shall be sounded, 8 it will be a hard day 9 For the infidels, not easy. 10 Leave Me alone [to deal] with him whom I have created alone, 11 and to whom I have granted resources in abundance, 12 And children to be by his side! 13 To whom I made (life) smooth and comfortable! 14 And who yet coveteth that shall increase. 15 By no means! He has been stubbornly hostile to Our revelation: 16 Soon will I visit him with a mount of calamities! 17 For lo! he did consider; then he planned - 18 May he be condemned! 19 Yea, Woe to him; How he plotted!- 20 Then he beheld, 21 then he frowned and scowled, 22 Then he turned back and was big with pride, 23 and said: “This (Qur'an) is merely a sorcery of yore; 24 This is naught else than speech of mortal man. 25 I will soon fling him into hell. 26 and what will teach thee what is Sakar? 27 It neither leaves, nor spares. 28 it scorches the skin; 29 Over it are nineteen keepers. 30 We have made only angels as the keepers of the fire (for they are the strongest in carrying out Our commands). Our informing (people) of the numbers of these angels is a trial for the disbelievers. It gives more certainty to the people of the Book and strengthens the faith of the believers. The people of the Book and the believers have no doubt about it. We have fixed the number to make the disbelievers and those whose hearts are sick say, "What does God mean by such a parable?" Thus, God guides and causes to go astray whomever He wants. No one knows about the army of your Lord except He Himself. This parable is a reminder for mankind. 31
