The Human (Al-Insan)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
There was certainly a time when there was no mention of the human being. 1 Indeed We have created man from mixed semen; in order to test him – We therefore made him hearing, knowing. 2 We showed him the way, whether he be grateful or ungrateful. 3 Lo! We have prepared for disbelievers manacles and carcans and a raging fire. 4 Indeed the virtuous will drink from a cup, containing a mixture of Kafoor. 5 From a spring of which the votaries of God will drink and make it flow in abundance. 6 They fulfill their vow and dread a Day the evil whereof shall be widespreading. 7 And feed with food the needy wretch, the orphan and the prisoner, for love of Him, 8 [Saying], "We feed you only for the countenance of Allah. We wish not from you reward or gratitude. 9 We fear the dismal day calamitous from our Lord." 10 Therefor Allah hath warded off from them the evil of that day, and hath made them find brightness and joy; 11 And will reward them for what they patiently endured [with] a garden [in Paradise] and silk [garments]. 12 They will recline therein on couches and they will find neither excessive heat nor cold. 13 the shading branches of trees will come down low over them, and their clusters of fruit, will hang down where they are the easiest to reach. 14 Vessels of silver and goblets of pure crystal will be passed round among them 15 goblets bright as crystal but made of silver, filled to exact measure. 16 And therein they shall be given to drink of a cup whereof the admixture will be ginger. 17 from a spring named salsabil. 18 ۞ And round about them will (serve) boys of everlasting youth. If you see them, you would think them scattered pearls. 19 When thou seest, thou wilt see there bliss and high estate. 20 Upon them there will be garments of green silk, rich brocade, and they will be adorned with bracelets of silver. Their Lord will give them a pure beverage to drink. 21 "This in truth is your recompense, and acceptance of your endeavours." 22
