Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Has there reached you the report of the Overwhelming [event]? 1 (Some) faces on that day shall be downcast, 2 Working [hard] and exhausted. 3 They will suffer the heat of the blazing fire 4 and will be made to drink from a boiling spring, 5 No food shall be theirs save bitter thorn, 6 Which will neither fatten nor avail against hunger. 7 (Whereas other) faces on that Day will be joyful, 8 with their striving well-pleased, 9 in a sublime Garden, 10 wherein thou wilt hear no empty talk. 11 Therein is a fountain flowing, 12 [and] there will be thrones [of happiness] raised high, 13 And drinking-cups ready placed, 14 and arranged cushions 15 And linen spread out. 16 Do they not then ponder how the clouds were formed; 17 And the heaven, how it is reared aloft, 18 And the mountains – how they have been established? 19 And the earth: how it was spread out? 20 Then remind them! Thou art only a reminder; 21 Thou art not over them a warden. 22 Except whoever turns away and disbelieves – 23 Then Allah will punish him with the greatest punishment. 24 Certainly, it is to Us that they will return. 25 Then indeed only upon Us is their reckoning. 26
