The Stars (Al-Najm)
62 verses, revealed in Mecca after Absoluteness (Al-Ikhlaas) before He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the star when it plunges, 1 your companion has neither strayed nor is he misguided, 2 and neither does he speak out of his own desire: 3 It is naught save an inspiration that is inspired, 4 Bestowed on him by the Supreme Intellect, 5 and endowed with wisdom; who in time manifested himself; 6 while he was in the highest horizon; 7 Then he drew near, then he bowed 8 two bows' length away, or nearer, 9 So did (Allah) convey the Inspiration to His slave [Muhammad SAW through Jibrael (Gabriel)]. 10 The heart lied not in that which he saw. 11 Will you then dispute with him as to what he saw? 12 Indeed he saw him a second time, 13 by the Lote-Tree of the Boundary 14 Close to which is the Garden of Tranquility, 15 When that covered the lote-tree which covered it. 16 (Muhammad's) eyes did not deceive him, nor did they lead him to falsehood. 17 truly did he see some of the most profound of his Sustainer's symbols. 18 Have you then considered the Lat and the Uzza, 19 and Manat the third, the other? 20 Shall you have the male issues, and He the female issues? 21 That indeed is a division most unfair! 22 These [allegedly divine beings] are nothing but empty names which you have invented - you and your forefathers - [and] for which God has bestowed no warrant from on high. They [who worship them] follow nothing but surmise and their own wishful thinking - although right guidance has now indeed come unto them from their Sustainer. 23 Does man imagine that it is his due to have all that he might wish for, 24 To Allah belong both the Next World and the present. 25
