The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O thou enveloped! 1 arise, and warn! 2 And thine Lord magnify! 3 Thy raiment purify, 4 And uncleanness do shun, 5 And bestow not favour that thou mayest receive more. 6 And for the sake of your Lord, be patient. 7 For when the Trump is sounded 8 That shall be - that Day - a day hard. 9 Not easy upon the disbelievers. 10 Leave Me with the one I created alone 11 And gave him vast wealth. 12 And children to be by his side! 13 I made things smooth and easy for him, 14 and yet, he greedily desires that I give yet more! 15 Nay! Verily, he has been stubborn and opposing Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.). 16 I will constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 Indeed he thought, and inwardly decided. 18 And woe to him! How he plotted!- 19 And again perish he! How maliciously he devised! 20 Then he looked, 21 frowned and scowled; 22 Then he turned away, and was haughty. 23 And said, "This is not but magic imitated [from others]. 24 These are only words from a mere mortal". 25 I will surely roast him in the Scorching. 26 And what have you understood, what hell is! 27 It shall not spare, nor leave. 28 It strips away the hide of man. 29 Over it are nineteen [powers]. 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire, and their number have We made to be a stumbling-block for those who disbelieve; that those to whom the Scripture hath been given may have certainty, and that believers may increase in faith; and that those to whom the Scripture hath been given and believers may not doubt; and that those in whose hearts there is disease, and disbelievers, may say: What meaneth Allah by this similitude? Thus Allah sendeth astray whom He will, and whom He will He guideth. None knoweth the hosts of thy Lord save Him. This is naught else than a Reminder unto mortals. 31
