The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the event befalleth - 1 There is no belying its coming to pass-- 2 It will bring down [some] and raise up [others]. 3 When the earth shall be shaken to its depths, 4 The mountains bruised and crushed, 5 they will become like dust scattered around. 6 [on that Day] you shall be divided into three groups. 7 Companions of the Right (O Companions of the Right!) 8 And those on the left hand; how miserable shall those on the left hand be! 9 The third to the fore shall be the foremost. 10 (The foremost ones) will be the nearest ones to God 11 in the Gardens of Delight, 12 A [large] company of the former peoples 13 And a few of later ages, 14 On lined couches, 15 reclining on them, arrayed face to face; 16 They will be served by immortal boys, 17 With goblets and ewers and a cup of pure drink; 18 They shall not be affected with headache thereby, nor shall they get exhausted, 19 And fruits such as they choose, 20 And the flesh of fowls that they desire. 21 And there will be fair ones large eyed. 22 like pearls preserved in their shells, 23 a recompense for that they laboured. 24 No Laghw (dirty, false, evil vain talk) will they hear therein, nor any sinful speech (like backbiting, etc.). 25 Nought but the saying: peace! peace! 26 And those on the Right Hand, Who will be those on the Right Hand? 27 [They, too, will find themselves] amidst fruit laden lote-trees, 28 and acacias flower-clad, 29 And spreading shade, 30 near to flowing water 31 and fruits abounding 32 unfailing and not forbidden. 33 And carpets raised. 34 for, behold, We shall have brought them into being in a life renewed, 35 and made them virgins, 36 loving companions, matching in age, 37 For the sake of the companions of the right hand. 38
